Empowering Futures

The distance adoption program at Watamu Child Center works by connecting sponsors-individuals, families, or organizations-with a specific child in need, providing regular financial support to cover essential needs such as education, school supplies, uniforms, and healthcare. Here’s how the program typically operates in practice:
- Sponsorship Commitment: Sponsors sign an agreement and commit to supporting a child for at least 12 months, with the option to continue longer. The financial contribution ensures the child can attend school, receive necessary materials, and access basic healthcare
- Regular Updates and Communication: Sponsors receive updates about the child’s progress three times a year, including school reports, photographs, and certificates. Communication is encouraged, and sponsors can write letters and send photos to the child. If the child is too young or unable to write, a teacher or coordinator may assist with correspondence
- Personal Connection: The program emphasizes building a bond between the sponsor and the child, fostering understanding and solidarity across cultures. While direct visits may be possible, most interaction is through letters and updates
- Administrative Support: All correspondence and updates are managed by the program’s local coordinators, ensuring smooth communication and that support reaches the intended child. Due to customs regulations, sending packages is generally discouraged, and the focus remains on financial and emotional suppor
- Transparency and Accountability: Sponsors can access a personal portal to track their contributions, view updates, and manage their sponsorship agreement
